Sauna as a treatment for heart failure
Project by Guillaume BAUDRY, cardiologist

Heart failure is a serious disease characterized by water and salt (sodium) retention, leading to shortness of breath, weight gain and edema, and resulting in hospitalization and death.
Treatment of this retention is based on diuretics, which have incomplete efficacy and adverse effects.
Sauna sweating results in water and salt loss, helping to reduce congestion, as shown in preliminary studies.
Unfortunately, "cardiac" patients are often excluded from saunas as excessive precaution has limited the confirmation of benefits in well-conducted studies.
Rigorous evaluation of the sauna, initially in hospital settings, will confirm its benefits in treating heart failure.
